Mitski has unveiled a new music video for her The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We song âStar.â The black-and-white clip is directed by frequent collaborator Maegan Houang, whoâs behind Puberty 2âs âHappyâ and Laurel Hellâs âThe Only Heartbreakerâ and âStay Soft.â Watch the video, in which Mitski paddles a boat across a foggy lake at night, below.
âUnlike the more narrative/concept driven videos Mitski and I have done together in the past, I wanted this video to encapsulate the impressionistic circularity we all experience,â Houang said in a press release of the songâs music video. âOur lives oscillate between light and dark repeating itself in an endless cycle where nothing is permanent. The best moments are fleeting, but so are the bad.â
Mitski is still on tour in Europe in support of the album. âStarâ is the third track from The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We to get the music video treatment, following visuals for âBug Like an Angelâ and âMy Love Mine All Mine.â
Last month, Mitski shared a cover of âCoyote, My Little Brotherââthe Peter Lafarge song popularized by Pete Seeger in the 1960sâand a new version of her track âBuffalo Replacedâ for the Spotify Singles series. Sheâs currently still at work writing the music and lyrics for an upcoming musical stage production of The Queenâs Gambit.
